Geek Out Commentary: The Dark Knight Rises

Geek Out's 75th anniversary celebration of Batman concludes (As does the first year of commentaries) with this final appearance of Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight Rises is an interesting film that has moments that captivate the Geek Out gang and other moments that completely pull them out of the movie. Jake is delighted with Tom Hardy's performance as his favorite Batman villain, Bane, but is put off by other elements of the film (Including his apparent contempt for the Pittsburgh Steelers). None of the guys are particular fans of the way the movie starts and Sam and Chris lament the film as something that only halfway succeeds at closing out Bale's trilogy of Batman. Take a listen.

As a special Christmas Eve gift, the Geek Out gang presents you guys with a special commentary release for Home Alone! The first two Home Alone films figured prominently in the boys childhoods as they were the perfect age for it when it was first released. However, while Chris has seen the film fairly recently, Sam and Jake haven't revisited it in roughly a decade. Does it hold up for them? Find out here...

Geek Out Commentary: The Dark Knight

Man, I feel like most people were waiting this entire 75th anniversary celebration of Batman to get to this commentary. Largely recognized as one of the greatest comic book films OF ALL TIME, The Dark Knight is a film that transcended its origins to become this huge culturally significant film (And the first film since Titanic to gross over $1 billion at the box office). Rightfully remembered for Heath Ledger's scene-stealing performance as The Joker, listen as the Geek Out gang remembers when they first saw this monumental film during the summer of 2008, Eric Roberts' weird mobster voice, and the scene the guys wish would never end. This is the big one, guys.

Geek Out Commentary: Batman Begins

Man, after a couple weeks of absolute cinematic crap, we finally get back to some GOOD movies. Batman Begins succeeded in bringing back the Caped Crusader to the big screen in a meaningful way and, while often overlooked compared to its immediate sequel, stands as one of the best comic book films ever made and is largely responsible for the current Marvel and DC comic book movie strategies. It is a deeply personal film for Sam and is the movie that Jake regards as his personal favorite of the Christian Bale's trilogy of appearances as the Dark Knight.

Geek Out Commentary: Batman and Robin

I think on some level, we've all been waiting for and dreading this at the same time. That being said, Sam and Jake both argue that Batman and Robin is a better film than its predecessor because, unlike Batman Forever, it knows exactly what it is and completely embraces the franchise's campiness, aided largely by Arnold Schwarzenegger's over-the-top performance as Mr. Freeze. Now we're not saying it's a good movie but, well, just listen in for yourself as the gang dives into the end of the pre-Christian Bale Batman films with the infamous Batman and Robin...
