Geek Out Commentary: Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace

You thought we were just straight up ditching this one, didn't you? Try as we might to deny it, The Phantom Menace was a theatrically released Star Wars flick (And the only one to get a wide release in 3D!) so, for completion's sake, we did a commentary for it. But is it as terrible as the gang remembers it? Yes, yes it is. Watch and listen along as the boys suffer through what is hopefully the worst live action Star Wars film to grace the silver screen.

Geek Out Commentary: Scrooged

As a special Christmas to you, we're releasing a commentary of Chris' favorite Christmas film this merry yuletide eve! Fresh of their respective successes on Ghostbusters and Lethal Weapon, Bill Murray teamed up with Richard Donner to create this 80s retelling of Dickens' A Christmas Carol with all the cutthroat consumerism prevalent in the period. But how well did the two work together? What Christmas spirit is the gang's favorite? Watch along and listen as Jake experiences the film for the first time!

Geek Out Commentary: Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

The prequel interlude revealing the fall of Anakin Skywalker comes to an end this week as the boys revisit the final Star Wars prequel, a film many thought would be the final Star Wars film of all time. Often heralded as the best of the prequels (Some even consider it better than Return of the Jedi), George Lucas completed the promise he made by adding the Episode IV subtitle to the re-release of Star Wars with the release of Revenge of the Sith...but how does the gang feel about it? Geek Out Commentary: Star Wars - The Clone Wars

Wait, what? As if doing the Star Wars films out of episode or release order wasn't enough, you're going to throw an animated film in the mix? That's right, folks, the animated film that served as a means to introduce the public to the Cartoon Network TV series technically got a wide theatrical release so we're including it with our countdown for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Meant to bridge the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, if this film feels like a bunch of episodes from the show stringed together, it's because it is; The Clone Wars movie was a last minute decision from George Lucas himself so if you're looking for another reason to criticize him, look no further! Geek Out Commentary: Dick Tracy

We've long teased doing a series of commentaries on pulp features from the 1990s and Jake has decided to pick a trilogy from the genre for his birthday! Kicking it off is the 1990 Dick Tracy starring Warren Beatty. After the runaway success of Batman in the summer of 1989, every studio wanted their own franchise. Sam's very first memory is watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit in theaters in July of 1988 and, just in time for his birthday, he's picked it for our latest commentary! Roger Rabbit was a once in a lifetime film where numerous studios agreed for a one-off occasion to license their respective characters to show up together in a feature length movie. Of course, there were strings attached and the boys get into that over the course of the commentary. Listen to hear how the film impacted the gang at an early age and how well it stands up today!

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky Balboa

We close our our commentary countdown to Creed with a commentary for the most recent film in the Rocky franchise, Rocky Balboa. Given the legacy of Rocky V and Stallone's increasing age, a sixth Rocky film didn't seem to be in the cards but, just like the Italian Stallion, Stallone was determined to give his greatest creation one last ride and end the series on a high note. Listen as Chris and Josh watch the film for the first time and Jake and Sam bid a fond farewell to their favorite boxer...for now...

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky V

For weeks, we've talked about our contempt and disdain for the fifth film in the Rocky series, a sentiment echoed by the series creator, Sylvester Stallone, himself. But, for the sake of completion as we prepare for Creed, we just had to do it too. Generally regarded as the weakest in the series critically and commercially, Rocky V was an attempt to bring the Italian Stallion back to his working class roots. I guess it succeeds in that endeavor but what do the boys actually think of it? Is it really as bad as they've made it out to be? Watch and listen along with us and find out...

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky IV

Rocky IV is often regarded as a fan-favorite of the entire film series and what Jake and Sam refer to as the quinntessential 80s film. For f***'s sake, the movie has a robot! And more montages than Bloodsport! But how does the most commercially successful film in the franchise fare exactly 30 years after its initial release? Does Dolph Lundgren's acting debut hold up as well as Mr. T's in the previous film? And we cannot stress this enough: THIS MOVIE HAS A F****** ROBOT! Listen as we watch the tale of Rocky Balboa versus communism!

Listen to find out Chris' description of John Cena in Trainwreck, what Bruce Springsteen Josh would pair with Ant-Man, Sam's true feelings on director David O. Russell, and how Jake's dad already knows what his son is going to tell him. Chock full of goodness this week, gang.

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky III

Our countdown to Creed continues with Sam's personal favorite Rocky film, Rocky III! By 1982, Sylvester Stallone was feeling like a changed man from the struggling young actor/writer he had been less than a decade ago and wondered how his streetwise creation Rocky Balboa would respond to a similar level of success. This, coupled with a desire to pit the Philadelphia slugger against rising stars Mr. T and Hulk Hogan, led to what Sam calls one of the greatest third installments of any franchise ever. But how do the other boys feel about it? What does Jake think of the Italian Stallion's changes? And how does Chris feel about the film's pacing? All this and more, listeners...

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky II

We continue our countdown to Creed with the first of many sequels to the film that made Sylvester Stallone a household name! Even though the first Rocky film catapulted Stallone to overnight success, he was still struggling to cement his status in Hollywood. With that, he decided to create a sequel to his breakout role (And make his directorial debut in the series)! While Jake certainly holds Rocky II in high regard, how does the rest of the gang? Is Rocky II a worthy successor to the Best Picture winner or is it a sophomore slump? What character actor from Licence to Kill shows up? And who the hell keeps reminding Rocky that he's Italian?
