Geek Out Commentary: Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones

The countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues with...Attack of the Clones? Wait, where's Return of the Jedi? Like we said in our first week of Star Wars commentaries, we're doing this countdown in Machete Order so that means we get a flashback interlude to descent of Anakin Skywalker after The Empire Strikes Back's iconic plot twist! Attack of the Clones...it isn't regarded as one of the best Star Wars films, to put it politely, but it's generally regarded as a significant improvement over its predecessor and it's Josh's favorite Star Wars prequel...but how does the rest of the gang feel about it? Watch along and listen to find out!

A new Geek Out miniseries! Josh is a huge fan of Resident Evil, both the landmark Capcom video game franchise and the film series, and will be revisiting each of the movies as he explains his love of the cinematic adaptation of the classic survival horror games. This week, he's with fellow Geek Out co-host Chris and the two revisit the original Resident Evil film from 2002! Video game movies had developed a bit of bad rap (And, honestly, still have it) so nobody expected the runaway success of Paul WS Anderson's return to form with this series. If you're a fan of either the films or video games, take a listen!

The Geek Out Gang is back this week with another Image Comics interview, this time with writer Alex de Campi! Alex talks about her latest creator-owned book, No Mercy, how 70s cinema influences the stark reality of the story's content and how manga influences some of narrative pacing of the Image Comics title. Also, Alex talks how respecting genres while blending them is particularly important in the case of writing Archie vs. Predator. Finally, the boys talk about what they're thankful for and tease a larger discussion about the Netflix series Jessica Jones in the very near future...

The second arc of No Mercy starts with issue #5 on Wednesday, December 9 available in comic shops everywhere and on Comixology!

Geek Out Commentary: The Empire Strikes Back

The countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues! Critically derided upon its initial release, The Empire Strikes Back has gone on to become universally acclaimed as the best in the Star Wars series and one of the greatest films of all time...but do all the Geek Out Boys feel that way? Listen to hear what was added to the Special Edition of the film (Hint: Not as much as you'd think)! Learn the secret, dark history of Dagobah and the cave that Luke Skywalker must face! And learn more about what didn't actually make the final cut of the film! Darth Vader's mission to destroy the Rebel Alliance just got a lot more personal...

Geek Out Commentary: Star Wars

With the first live action Star Wars film in 10 years coming out next month and given how big Star Wars fans we are, was there any doubt we'd be doing a commentary series for the iconic science fiction franchise? In preparation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we're doing commentaries for all the theatrically released (Sorry no holiday special or Ewok films, those were all for TV) Star Wars films in Machete order! Up first, the film that started it all and launched a global phenomena, it's Star Wars (Remember, it wasn't released as A New Hope until years later!)! Get psyched!

The Geek Out gang has another interview this week, this time with writer James Kahn. Mr. Kahn is promoting his latest filmmaking project, Wrong Side Bob, through IndieGoGo and swings by the Geek-A-Lair to discuss the film, what inspired him to write the story, and what common themes in his writing are present in the film. Additionally, the boys talk to him about working on ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, how he broke into the entertainment industry, and the unconventional way he landed a gig as a staff writer on Star Trek: Voyager. Post-interview, the gang talks Fallout 4, Nintendo Direct, and The Flash!

The start of a new podcast miniseries! Sam and Jake's favorite band of all time is The Beatles and they're going through and re-examining every one of their official albums from top to bottom starting with their 1964 debut album Please Please Me! Very much a product of its time and epitomizes the popular music of the early 1960s. Full of Lennon/McCartney's nascent songwriting and slam-bang gathering of covers, Please Please Me was the first much of the world heard from four boys in Liverpool that were just breaking into the music business. Listen how the band that changed the world got started here!

The television talk continues with Chris and Josh recounting watching the premiere of Heroes Reborn! Find out what characters from the original Heroes return and how accessible it is to the uninitiated. But the bulk of this week's episode is about the polarizing Bond film, SPECTRE with Jake listing his grievances with the film, Sam talking about why he enjoyed it, and Josh falling somewhere in the middle! Has there been a more divisive Bond film in the venerable film franchise's history? Listen and find out!

Geek Out Commentary: Skyfall

The countdown to SPECTRE concludes here as the gang watches the most recent James Bond film Skyfall. Critics felt that Quantum of Solace was a serious letdown for the franchise and, after a four-year hiatus, Daniel Craig roared back with the British superspy's most personal adventure ever as the film franchise celebrated its 50th anniversary. Many called Skyfall the greatest Bond film ever when it was first released...but that was 3 years ago; what do the boys think now? Watch along and listen to find out!
