Pretty much since the beginning of the show, Jake and Sam have mentioned their friend Corey who works for Image Comics. This week, Corey swings by the Geek Out Lair and joins the gang in their discussion. She discusses some of the current affairs of Image, the third largest comic book publisher in North America, books that should be on everybody's reading list, and what it's like to work with Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn. The temporary quartet talk the new Avengers trailer, the first look at TV's Supergirl, and DC's recent programming from Arrow to Constantine. We are chock full of pop culture goodness this week and finally get some much-needed girl power!

Geek Out Commentary: Iron Man 3

Despite all three members of the Geek Out gang remembering that they enjoyed their initial viewing of this flick, none of them really saw it in its entirety since. That changes today as the Geek Out crew dive into the inaugural film of Phase II of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with what could very well be the last solo Iron Man film for the foreseeable future (Probably not; this movie grossed over $1 billion at the box office!). Sometimes taking a long break from a good movie leads to a pleasant surprise in rediscovering it...

The gang reminisces about the life and career of the late Leonard Nimoy whose recent death Sam likens to the loss of a childhood hero. From there, the trio talk about things they've been revisiting including Chris rewatching Twelve Monkeys, Jake and Sam Peckinpah's classic Cross of Iron, and Sam's middling results with Labyrinth. And, with Comic Con tickets on sale (And already sold out), the boys compare what single issues they'd love to pick up and which ones in their collection they're already proud to have.

Listen as Sam and Jake cruise through some fan favorite moments and recount how the audience reacted when they first saw the film in theaters. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!

The winter weather continues to pile up but luckily the entire gang is reunited in person this week to recount how they coped with the latest blizzard. Chris tells of a road trip to Boston and the amazing balancing skills of Nick Thune. Sam and Jake recall their adventureous trek for a Chinese food feast and invoke the ironclad Eiger Sanction Rules. Chris and Jake compare recent films that had been nominated for Best Picture including Whiplash and The Imitation Game. And the trio discuss the latest Academy Awards in-depth from Birdman to the hosting abilities of Neil Patrick Harris.

Geek Out Commentary: Captain America - The First Avenger

The last solo Marvel Cinematic Universe film before the superhero smorgasbord that came next, Captain America: The First Avenger holds a special place in Jake's heart for its throwback charm, World War II setting, and the masterful direction of Joe Johnston, director of one of Jake's all time favorite films, The Rocketeer. While Chris and Sam agree that the first two Fantastic Four films kinda sucked, they both identify Chris Evans' performance as a highlight and he definitely brings his A-game here as he breathes life into the Star-Spangled Avenger!

It's the winter storm of the century! Not really, Snowmaggedon sucked a lot worse. At any rate, Sam is stuck on the traffic-logged, icy roads of Northern Virginia and is forced to call in to join the discussion this week. The gang discusses Kingsman: The Secret Service and hail it as the first great film of 2015! Chris talks volunteering at Katsucon! The gang discusses the series premiere of Better Call Saul along with trailers for The Man from UNCLE and Crimson Peak! We don't let a little thing like winter weather stop the show!

Geek Out Commentary: Thor

You've been....THUNDERSTRUCK! AC/DC references aside (And boy, does the Marvel Cinematic Universe love them), a standalone Thor film was probably the biggest risk of the Phase One MCU with a character so rooted in fantasy in a world that was, more or less, set firmly in the real world. And yet, by most accounts, it worked out just fine and Chris Hemsworth became an international superstar because of it. Listen as the boys revisit this Phase One gem with the titular God of Thunder and as Sam and Chris begin a multi-commentary debate on Thor's power levels and abilities when he does not possess the Odinforce.

Also, Chris shares the Poltergeist remake's chilling first trailer leading into another in-depth discussion of cinematic horror. Lifelong Blink-182 fan Sam discusses the departure of the band's original guitarist. And, in the wake of last week's discussion on Marvel's Secret Wars, the gang talks about DC Comics' recent announcement of their post-Convergence publishing library.
