Geek Out Commentary: Dick Tracy

We've long teased doing a series of commentaries on pulp features from the 1990s and Jake has decided to pick a trilogy from the genre for his birthday! Kicking it off is the 1990 Dick Tracy starring Warren Beatty. After the runaway success of Batman in the summer of 1989, every studio wanted their own franchise. But instead of identifying Batman's success with superheroes, they thought it tied to the franchise's 1930s pulp origins! Thus, a revival of pulp properties with Dick Tracy leading the charge began? But how does the film hold up? What line from the film does Jake still quote semi-regularly? What technical aspect of the film grinds Chris' gears? Which actor was nominated for an Academy Award for his work in the film? Listen and find out!

Geek Out Commentary: Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Sam's very first memory is watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit in theaters in July of 1988 and, just in time for his birthday, he's picked it for our latest commentary! Roger Rabbit was a once in a lifetime film where numerous studios agreed for a one-off occasion to license their respective characters to show up together in a feature length movie. Of course, there were strings attached and the boys get into that over the course of the commentary. Listen to hear how the film impacted the gang at an early age and how well it stands up today!

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky Balboa

We close our our commentary countdown to Creed with a commentary for the most recent film in the Rocky franchise, Rocky Balboa. Given the legacy of Rocky V and Stallone's increasing age, a sixth Rocky film didn't seem to be in the cards but, just like the Italian Stallion, Stallone was determined to give his greatest creation one last ride and end the series on a high note. Listen as Chris and Josh watch the film for the first time and Jake and Sam bid a fond farewell to their favorite boxer...for now...

After doing a commentary series in preparation (Available now!), Sam, Jake, and Josh finally watch Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and share their thoughts on it and how it compares to the rest of the nearly 20 year-old franchise. Jake also talks about the movie Southpaw and his experiences in cinematic flatuence. Chris talks about the latest adaptation of literature's greatest detective with Mr. Holmes leading to a discussion of Doyle's super sleuth in recent pop culture as a whole. Finally, the gang looks back on the life and times of Roddy Piper, one of the wildest wrestlers of all time.

Geek Out Commentary: Rocky V

For weeks, we've talked about our contempt and disdain for the fifth film in the Rocky series, a sentiment echoed by the series creator, Sylvester Stallone, himself. But, for the sake of completion as we prepare for Creed, we just had to do it too. Generally regarded as the weakest in the series critically and commercially, Rocky V was an attempt to bring the Italian Stallion back to his working class roots. I guess it succeeds in that endeavor but what do the boys actually think of it? Is it really as bad as they've made it out to be? Watch and listen along with us and find out...
