Geek Out Commentary: Guardians of the Galaxy

The commentary countdown to this summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron concludes here with Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios' surprise blockbuster that went on to become the second highest grossing film at the North American box office in 2014! Focused on a relatively new and obscure Marvel Comics title, some analysts predicted the film to be Marvel's first bonafide flop but, as we all know now, it surpassed all expectations both commercially and critically! Listen as the gang wraps up their tour of the Marvel Cinematic Universe...for now...

Geek Out Commentary: Captain America - The Winter Soldier

Everyone was looking forward to the Captain America sequel but nobody really expected it to be the greatest installment of Phase II of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And yet, here it is, easily the best sequel of the MCU franchise that stands to have the greatest impact on the heroes leading up to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Listen as the gang sits down and revisits Chris' favorite entry to date in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We keep our Image Comics interview streak going this week with sitdown with comics writer Kel Symons, author of Reyn, The Mercenary Sea, and I Love Trouble. The latest issue of Reyn has just dropped today (Issue #3, available in comics shops everywhere and on Comixology) and it's got some hints that this more than just your standard swords-and-sorcery tale! In addition to talking developments in this latest issue, Symons also alludes to a return of The Mercenary Sea (A book that Sam and Jake can't recommend enough) and shares what he's currently geeking out over. Jake talks about Chappie and Sony's inaugural series, Powers. The gang swap drinking stories in light of St. Patrick's Day. All this and...Rocky III? Another slam-bang episode this week, guys.

Geek Out Commentary: Thor - The Dark World

Just as the gang hadn't really revisited Iron Man 3 until last week, the Thor sequel was another flick that had largely remained untouched after its initial viewing by the Geek Out boys. The middle child between the commercial and critical powerhouses of Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World did indeed enjoy greater commercial success than its predecessor but is largely the forgotten Phase II Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Listen as the boys revisit the film and watch Chris' favorite Doctor emerge as the flick's villain.

Pretty much since the beginning of the show, Jake and Sam have mentioned their friend Corey who works for Image Comics. This week, Corey swings by the Geek Out Lair and joins the gang in their discussion. She discusses some of the current affairs of Image, the third largest comic book publisher in North America, books that should be on everybody's reading list, and what it's like to work with Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn. The temporary quartet talk the new Avengers trailer, the first look at TV's Supergirl, and DC's recent programming from Arrow to Constantine. We are chock full of pop culture goodness this week and finally get some much-needed girl power!

Geek Out Commentary: Iron Man 3

Despite all three members of the Geek Out gang remembering that they enjoyed their initial viewing of this flick, none of them really saw it in its entirety since. That changes today as the Geek Out crew dive into the inaugural film of Phase II of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with what could very well be the last solo Iron Man film for the foreseeable future (Probably not; this movie grossed over $1 billion at the box office!). Sometimes taking a long break from a good movie leads to a pleasant surprise in rediscovering it...

The gang reminisces about the life and career of the late Leonard Nimoy whose recent death Sam likens to the loss of a childhood hero. From there, the trio talk about things they've been revisiting including Chris rewatching Twelve Monkeys, Jake and Sam Peckinpah's classic Cross of Iron, and Sam's middling results with Labyrinth. And, with Comic Con tickets on sale (And already sold out), the boys compare what single issues they'd love to pick up and which ones in their collection they're already proud to have.

Geek Out Commentary: The Avengers

Not to be confused with the Ralph Fiennes/Uma Thurman film of the same name that Chris loves so much, this is the culmination of Phase I of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of the highest grossing films OF ALL TIME! Listen as Sam and Jake cruise through some fan favorite moments and recount how the audience reacted when they first saw the film in theaters. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!
